If you aren't familiar with the concept of the diminutive, here's Wikipedia's definition:
Essentially, it's saying "kitty" instead of "cat". In a lot of languages, suffixes are used to form diminutives. (-ita or -ito in Spanish, -ette in French, etc.) Do your kitties ever use diminutives, and in what contexts?
Or, if that's a little technical for you, how about nicknames or pet names? One thing I think is cute is calling kittens different things depending on the clan's location. Like, a forest clan might address kits as "acorn", while their neighboring water based clan uses "pebble". Are nicknames even used, since naming is so important to clan culture? If so, is it perhaps limited to specific contexts?
If you wanna get into honorifics too, please be my guest. That's some good stuff.
I haven't thought all of this through myself, so I'll be posting about my clans later!
A diminutive is a word which has been modified to convey a slighter degree of its root meaning, to convey the smallness of the object or quality named, or to convey a sense of intimacy or endearment. {link}
