paeanistic!
n.b: these are all very very loosely based off the tribe systems whoop te doo,, but i sure do love attempting to make things that can very subtly be introduced in a hypothetical hunteresque canon
the basics - founders' history
i.
Of the three, Fenris is the eldest and the most pacifistic, being founded by a kittypet-turned loner who had vague ideas of what they wanted to be, and what would dictate their life. That cat's name was Abas, and they only had a vague idea of what cats were supposed to believe in, only knowing that it would dictate their life. They travelled out to the wilderness to connect with whatever they were 'supposed to', and were awed by the forests they discovered. Slowly but surely, cats gathered around Abas, and as they grew more certain of the Earth and its role in their life, they became much wiser, and began teaching self-learned herblore to the cats they lived with, ensuring the information was passed between the entire group.
Over the years, Abas' group hunted and rarely left the forests, respecting the lands and thanking the Skies for the prey they had hunted, but Abas' closest sister, Fenri had contracted a illness that Abas had never seen before.
She died.
Abas mourned for moons upon moons, blaming and secluding themself at the place where Fenri had died- a tall, earthen mound, and refused to eat, to sleep or take care of themself. They too did suffer from Fenri's loss, and eventually, old age and weakness caught up to them- Fenri's son, Rye took the mantle of the group leader, and named the gathering- no, Tribe Fenris, after his mother.
Of course, the age of peace was not entirely over. After the swift death of both 'leader-figures', the tribe was sent into disarray, many cats being struck with grief- Fenri's death was bad enough, but Abas? There was no telling what Rye would do- he was only young, after all. The tom, however, had plans for Fenris. Not the kind that included submitting to the arcane desires of whatever caused both the Shios {Which was an unusual arrangement to begin with, but Rye would not take that as a reason to why they had both died. The Sky was not that merciless.}
After much deliberation, Rye simply resolved to fix the mistakes that his mother's sibling made; he created a reserve of sorts for whatever leader there would be. It wasn't the best of solutions, but it was functional, and that was what counted.
Fenris would not suffer again.

Unlike Fenris, whose roots were of a more.. peaceful type, Rani's heritage began in the heat of battle. Crag, a scorned traveller made his way to relatively quiet lands, with a few cats by his side. The burly tom had plans: he knew that a place like this would have other cats living there and the best strategy was to divide and take over. Luckily for him and his band of rogues, the only cats dwelling on the range that they knew of were those in Fenris. They forcibly took the some of the land from the denizens of the forest, and established borders and a large camp to stay in closer to the mountains.
Of course, the then-leader, Rye was having none of this so-called gang coming onto their land and attempting to usurp Fenris' control over the forests. Defending his people to within an inch of his life- Crag knew that intimidation was the key, although what he didn't know was that the other tribe would continue to lick their wounds and with a strengthened sense of self-preservation, they began engineering more lethal methods of defense. These were known as the Grah, and although they originated from a 'weaker' tribe, Rani has perfected and excelled in using these, whereas their creators have mostly forgotten the skillset.
In a crude attempt at 'poetic justice', Crag attempted to use the Grah on Fenris' cats- well, they did manage to scare them into submission easily enough, and so Rani settled quickly, and their numbers multiplied at an alarming pace. Crag, however, was still not satisfied. He tried to take yet more of Fenris' territory, but they were prepared. With a powerful counter-attack, Rye made short work of Crag, rendering him blind in one of his eyes. The tom still made sure his voice was heard- he managed to stir the Tribe into believing that a cat's claws were the highest order they one could answer to. Of course, Rani is best known for their militant strategies. {Rye was ingenious at devising innovative moves, but these were forgotten and Crag claimed he had created the Grah. I mean, obviously. Everyone believes it, even now.} They do, however, tend to be a little more 'calm' around Phin.
iii.
Phin is the smallest and youngest of all three tribes, but with the most close-knit community. At its conception, its founder, Feather found it quite difficult to claim territory, but after long negotiations with Crag's son, Boulder, she managed to secure the areas with the least prey- the river hunters found it difficult to hunt over the sparse moors they had. Phin has the least history or developed ranks, it has been only a few years of its existence. Feather's kin is adaptable, however, and Phin still struggles to defend its borders and be recognised as a true Tribe, even today.
