~Founding Of The Tribes
These Tribes are related to the canon Clans. Things change after the Clans move to the lake. Anything from the end of The New Prophecy forward has been altered.
In this version, The Clans settled peacefully in their territories. Life went on as normal, with StarClan becoming more distant. The Clans were maturing, and they finally decided to pull back. They misjudged: the Clans panicked and feared the Dark Forest was upon them. Trust shattered as they wondered which cats displeased StarClan to make their ancestors draw away; soon rumors of a supernatural war cropped up, and the basic loyalty of the Clans fell apart. StarClan tried to reestablish close contact, but the Medicine Cats had lost too much faith. Soon, the Clans broke apart.
Some became loners, remaining with their families and splitting up into the woods, marshes and moors. Others ran far away from the basin, not wanting to face the destruction. More yet - particularly the sickly, weak and old - became Kittypets begrudgingly, knowing they couldn't survive without the Clan to keep them alive. While their ranks burst into many small groups, legends fizzled except one.
Firestar. His descendants told of his endeavors, how he lead ThunderClan through its worst and picked it up after its name was dragged through the mud by his predecessors. Soon his descendants revered him - within generations he became a protecting spirit, and then a deity, embodied by the sun and fire itself.
It was due to Firestar's legend that cats decided to recreate the Clans. However, the Lake was considered cursed. The three friends, determined to recreate the culture of their ancestors, started recruiting the barncats and loners passing by, as well as kittypets willing to leave behind their soft life. Soon they had a small clowder, and began to travel.
They arrived at a cave where a river became a huge waterfall; here, they found the Tribe. The cats, isolated like the former moonpool, were so inbred that they were beginning to die out. When this group of strangers came upon them, they took it as a sign and rejoiced, bringing the strangers into their cave to welcome them.
Taking mates and settling, it would be three generations more until the dream of recreated Clans came true. Three descendants of them became frustrated; legends of Clans made them antsy for adventure and drama, but the Tribe lived alone and was becoming inbred again. The three cats gathered similarly feeling youngsters and stole away in the night, finding a camp just outside Tribal territory. They named themselves the Tribe of Winter Birds, symbolizing how they fled a place now unfit.
However, unrest grew among them as things grew rough. They had no Stoneteller, and so they had no healer or spiritual leader, which they needed to function. So, one day they did something unspeakable: they found the Stoneteller's firstborn alone and took her back to their Tribe, assuring her it was safe. They convinced her it was her destiny to be their new Stoneteller due to her blood, and she accepted.
Tensions grew thanks to this decision. Some cats didn't want a Rushing Water cat as their Stoneteller; they were independant, were they not? So why did they still have to depend on their predecessors to achieve anything?
Finally some cats decided they were better off by themselves, and broke away a second time. They called themselves the Tribe of Drifting Clouds, symbolizing how clouds break apart and come together as the wind pushed them.
With three Tribes available now, their numbers swelled and they became less like each other. While their ancestors' Clans never came to be, their dreams were realized in a different way.
~Tribes
TRIBE OF RUSHING WATER: The original Tribe of the three. They are very stiff on tradition and despise change. They are religiously oriented and anything going against their beliefs is labeled evil or a bad omen. They hate the other Tribes with a great passion, seeing them as grownup kittens rather than proper adults. They also believe the other two Tribes to be against the will of the Tribe of Endless Hunting.
TRIBE OF WINTER BIRDS: A Tribe that is very leery of abandonment. Going outside of camp alone is seen as bad luck or a temptation of evil, and thus always do things in pairs or more. They see the other two Tribes as simple competition, nothing more and nothing left. They feel most open to interbreeding between the three Tribes, though they strictly enforce a rule that kits always go to the mother Tribe. They are particularly hostile toward the Tribe of Drifting Clouds.
TRIBE OF DRIFTING CLOUDS: The youngest and most flexible of the three Tribes. They have a very loose code of conduct, and they believe the rules are able to be bent on the opinion of the Stoneteller. They seem to be the most disjointed, but they actually work pretty well by themselves despite their appearance. The problems begin when an outside threat approaches, though even these discussions are often less disastrous than they could be. The only tribe to be democratic.
