can't take credit for this thread. Saw it on the old Fourtrees Resurrected. There are many potential suffixes you can use and they can mean different things! thought this might a good and fun idea to kick off some naming stuff. c: for this, i'll be putting down the list of suffixes from the first arc of Warriors, aka the original arc. consider these 'core' suffixes: you are, of course, welcome and encouraged to change a suffix into a different one. (i.e. changing -flower to -belly or some such).
feel free to do this at your pace, no rush. i'll be compiling my own list as well.
edit: one more thing ! i ask that you do this completely independent from other sources, such as Ailuronymy or North-American-Warriors or any other naming guides. I want to see how your thoughts each suffix, not someone else's.
edit 2: one more thing. this suffix list is just here. you can fill it out if you want to. if you don't want to for whatever reason (maybe you have a completely new suffix list, or something) you don't have to. ^_^ i just put this here for a reference, really.

Since I'm going such a different direction with my own clans and have memorized the Ailuronymy system by heart, I thought it would be fun to think of this as what I would do if I were to rewrite the first arc, using the first arc as a base for the system and keeping it as true to canon as possible while still being sensible. -claw: Notably skilled at fighting. Setting aside silly correlating names, -claw is pretty consistently used for good fighters in the first arc. -whisker: Notably skilled at hunting. This is the most logical meaning we can assign to -whisker, since it isn't very clear in the series what it might refer to. -tail: A very agile cat. Again, there's no clear theme in the original series, so agility makes the most sense to assign to -tail. -nose: A very good tracker.I love -nose, but the only instance of it I could find in the first arc was Runningnose, whose name obviously shouldn't be taken seriously. So for this exercise, it's scrapped.
-foot: A very fast and agile cat. Why not just speed as it is largely used? Because Runningwind, who is literally only described by his speed, doesn't have it, and I saw an interesting way to take that. -stream: In RiverClan, a good swimmer. Even if a cat in another Clan could swim, when would they? Why bother honoring a pointless skill? So, -stream is strictly RiverClan. -leaf: A very skilled medicine cat. I think only Spottedleaf has this in the first arc, and she is mentioned to be very good at her job. -flower: A cat who is good with kits and young cats. More commonly used for cats who can bear kits. This is the most consistent suffix in the series. It's always used for cats who are frequently caring for kits. -cloud: A calm cat who is good at handling stress. Mostly used for minor characters but this is a fairly consistent trait among them, and it lines up with the traditional meaning. -heart: A friendly cat good at negotiating. I thought this was more suitable for cats other than just Fireheart who had this suffix, and the idea of -heart meaning good at connecting to others makes sense with some connotations. I also do think this would be valued in a clan enough to possibly be honored with a suffix. -pool: -cloud, but for RiverClan?Graypool is the only example and I really could not think of anything better so out it goes. Bye, -pool. -breeze(replaces -wind): A very fast cat. A suffix honoring WindClan's most prized skill. I went off of Runningwind for this one, but decided to change it to -breeze because that's a more common suffix later on in the series, and to better match the corresponding suffixes for the other clans. I just thought clan suffixes could be really cool. -storm: A cat with a strong sense of justice. A suffix honoring ThunderClan’s most prized trait. Whitestorm and Sandstorm are the most notable cats with this suffix. The traditional meaning doesn't really fit Whitestorm, so I though it would be interesting for ThunderClan's clan suffix, replacing the traditional meaning of -heart. -brook: Skilled at fishing. A suffix honoring RiverClan's most prized skill. And therefore only used in RiverClan, but oh well. It exists in the first arc, in Runningbrook of WindClan, but that was a silly name and -brook has better potential than that. -shade: Originally for a very stealthy cat, now usually for one also good at tracking other cats. A suffix honoring ShadowClan's most prized skill. We needed a tracking suffix, and I liked the idea of the meaning shifting slightly over time. It is used outside of the first arc. -face: A pretty cat that doesn't suit any of the above suffixes. Brindleface is literally just a "pretty tabby", of course -face mean pretty. -stripe: A notably striped cat that doesn't suit any of the above suffixes. This is pretty consistent other than Graystripe, and his situation is kind of absurd anyway. -fur/pelt: A cat that doesn't suit any of the above suffixes. I never really got the idea of correlating these with longhaired/shorthaired, just doesn't appeal to me personally. And then the name-change ones too, which don't really need listing, so there it is!

This is a neat idea! I shall have a go! This is based off an AU I plan on writing in the future. ^0^
-Pelt: A shortfurred cat who is very distinct. No other suffix properly describes them; it is a suffix of great honor and personality, as few cats sit in this category.
-Fur: A longfurred cat who is vert distinct. No other suffix properly describes them; it is a suffix of great honor and personality, as few cats sit in this category.
-Stripe: An attractive tabby whose skills and personality don't fall under any other suffix.
-Heart: An outspoken cat who is unafraid to defend their Clan to the death. There's loyalty, and then there's these guys. Some cats see it as an honorable trait, while others see it as pure foolery - kitsplay.
-Storm: A wild cat who never seems to be stilled or calm. They drift speedily from activity to activity. They're always helping cats doing dirty or unlikeable chores. This suffix signifies a communally active cat, a cat who won't still until work is finished and over with.
-Fang: A suffix with two connotations. 1) a cat whose hunting and fighting skills rise above the rest, 2) a cat who is known for their barbed tongue and sharp wit.
-Claw: A skilled fighter. A very, very honorable suffix that many strive to earn. These cats are feared in battle, and if a cat recognizes a -claw on the opposing team, terror is a first response.
-Whisker: Another suffix with two connotations. 1) A cat whose attention to detail is immaculate, 2) A skilled hunter. Often a cat's build gives this away, as cats with #2 tend to have muscular legs as compared to #1, though this isn't always the case.
-Nose: A cat whose tracking abilities are unmatched by their other skills. Some cats find this a useless suffix - "all cats can track!" - but others bear it with great pride. -nose cats often serve scouting purposes.
-Foot: A fleet-of-foot cat who seems to fly across the lands. These cats are unfortunately the only suffix to be generalized/stereotyped, seen as trading in their muscle for speed and thus interpreted as physically weak or even a coward. Some even see the suffix as a name of pity.
-Tail: An unmatched climber. These cats often show a fearlessness when it comes to heights or falls. Some - particularly seniors and elders - tend to see this as a suffix of youthful idiocy to praise carelessness in apprenticehood, but they do respect the abilities hidden behind the seemingly useless bravery.
-Face: A generally pretty cat. This suffix is not particularly hated by cats... unless they get the suffix. At first it feels like flattery, but often a moon or so later the cat often feels they've gotten the shaft. This suffix is rarely used for fear of the recipient getting offended. The question is often, "what about me is pretty? why didn't you name me after that?"
-Throat: A cat with a particularly good memory. This stems from the belief that memories, stories and lore are kept primarily in the throat, where one's voice can easily retrieve and recite it. These cats are often called upon to retell legends and stories, folklore, and even reiterate events that happened in their lifetime.
-Eye: A medicine cat who is particularly good at sensing the signs StarClan brings the living. They notice omens in the twitch of a leaf or the whisper of wind, which others might pass off as simple nature.
-Ear: A cat who is good at hearing. While any cat can get this suffix, it's most commonly given to blind cats, as their naturally heightened abilities appear remarkable to the rest of the Clan. Some cats even ask if an -ear cat is blind before they even approach - which can often save a lot of embarrasment, so perhaps the connection isn't a bad thing.
-Flower: A renowned parent. These cats are hugely respected as protectors of the next generation. When it is time for apprenticeships, -flower cats are called upon to help decide on mentors. Apprentices are taught to trust -flower cats in case of crisis from the moment their ears open.
-Cloud: A gentle cat who would never hurt a fly. While they don't need to be particularly calm, their touch is like that of mist, almost unnoticable. These cats are known to be very gentle steppers, and are often very good for intelligence missions and comforting other cats who may be having a rough day.
-Leaf: A medicine cat who is particularly skilled in the healing part of their job. They can note exactly what is ailing a cat, and know immediately how to fix it.
-Pool: A calm, cool, collected cat whose temperment never rises beyond an exasperated sigh. These cats are associated with the glassy surface of an undisturbed pond. Some cats even see -pool cats as cold or even emotionless.
-Cool: A relatively new suffix that newer generations cooked up. A mixture of -pool and -cloud, it signifies a cat in Ultimate Zen, if you will; a cat who is extremely gentle and extremely calm. These cats can be described as either wonderfully relaxing, or eerily creepy.
NOTES: 1. I got rid of -wind and niftily replaced it with -leaf, since my hopeful story will take place in the canon Clans. 2. -Cool isn't a first-arc suffix, I just felt like including it!

Since I... run NAW, I have nothing really to contribute - I just wanted to say, Bittycat, your -flower interpretation is so wonderful! Queens really are so vital to Clans, not just as kit-producers like they seem to get relegated to in canon. They are definitely matriarchs, and you can imagine them in some cases practically running the camp itself, especially if the high ranks tend to be battle-oriented.

Well, I suppose I could contribute my favorite suffix list I've composed. I have several, but the unity and range of this one has made it my predominant one, though I'm still working out an 'action-oriented' one, and refining my '-er' one.
So, I have:
Suffix: -belly ('muin-e'; pronounced 'moo-ihn-ee'; derived from 'mu' (soft), 'in' (center), and 'e' (self/spirit/life))
Meaning: cat is a very good parent, possibly also an above-average mentor. Reason: the belly is where mothers hold their kits before birth and where milk comes from. Other: cat is very good at dealing with demands of kits and is probably a patient and protective cat. Would be consulted by the leader regarding mentor-apprentice pairings, and are among the most respected, trusted, and even feared cats in the clan for their dedication, skill, and lethal defensiveness of kits and young cats.
Suffix: -claw ('tec'; pronounced 'teek')
Meaning: skilled fighter. Reason: claws are a cat’s first line of defense when fighting. Other: cat also might be larger than average and strongly built. Very respected among the clan as they know how to deal with battles quickly and with minimal losses and injuries to their own cats. They also tend to be big and intimidating, so are skilled at bluffing and deal with confrontations without it actually coming to claws and teeth.
Suffix: -face ('muc'; pronounced 'mook')
Meaning: cat is considered highly attractive by the standards of their clan. Reason: the face is usually considered the most attractive. Other: cat may be more sought-after as a mate.
Suffix:-fang ('muctec'; pronounced 'mook-teek'; derived from 'muc' (face) and 'tec' (claw); so 'face-claw', or fangs)
Meaning: cat is admirably good at both hunting and fighting but not good enough at either or ear -whisker or -claw. Reason: fangs are integral to both hunting and fighting. Other: cat may be slightly larger than average and probably has sharp senses and a good eye for detail. Would be considered quite impressive for mastery of two skills.
Suffix: -foot ('ler'; pronounced 'leer')
Meaning: cat is very fast and agile on the ground/a fast and enduring runner. Reason: cats run with their feet. Other: cat likely is lighter-built or has long legs. May be often picked for patrols that will be hunting fast prey, such as rabbits. Might work with -whisker cats to endurance hunt prey, with the -foot cat(s) running the prey down and tiring it so the -whisker cat has an easier time killing it.
Suffix: -fur ('ce'; pronounced 'key')
Meaning: cat does not fit any other suffixes available, and also has long hair. Reason: connotations of longer hair. Other: cat is long-haired; cat is not ‘average’, rather cat simply is too unique to be classified by another suffix.
Suffix: -kit ('cit'; pronounced 'khit')
Meaning: cat is less than six moons old and is a kit. Reason: means kitten. Other: rank suffix; derived from conlang 'cit', (khit), meaning a cat younger than six moons.
Suffix: -nose ('rut'; pronounced 'root')
Meaning: cat is a very skilled tracker. Reason: cats use their noses to scent and track. Other: cat is likely very attuned to detail, changes in their environment, seeing how the small pieces fit into the big picture, good at reading body language.
Suffix: -pad ('muler'; pronounced 'moo-leer'; derived from 'mu' (soft) and 'ler' (foot))
Meaning: cat is very calm and patient and level-headed, even under stress. Reason: a cat’s pad cushion their feet and protect them, as a level-headed and patient cat cushions the clan and helps to shield others from stress. Derived from sayings such as 'may your pads always shield your paws', with the implication of the paw pads absorbing impacts and shielding the softer paw-flesh from thorns and harm, in the way that -pad cats are good at shielding themselves from the harms of stress. Other: cat is very good at handling crises/diplomatic situations/coping with stress.
Suffix: -paw ('lere'; pronounced 'leery')
Meaning: cat is older than six moons and is an apprentice. Reason: indicates cat is just taking their first real ‘paw-steps’ in their life as a growing, maturing cat. Derived from the phrases 'paws on the path', indicating that the young cats are now on their path in life. Apprentices are often termed 'Pathfinders', deriving from the same phrase. Other: rank suffix; is differentiated from -foot by context and addition of the 'e' at the end.
Suffix: -pelt ('ca'; pronounced 'kaa')
Meaning: cat does not fit any other suffixes, and also has short hair. Reason: connotations of short hair. Other: cat is short-haired; cat is not ‘average’, rather cat simply is too unique to be classified by another suffix.
Suffix: -sky ('scu'; pronounced 'skoo')
Meaning: cat is a leader. Reason: indicates cat’s special bond with the stars, the moon, the sun, and Skyclan, where their ancestors reside. Other: rank suffix, indicates spirituality
Suffix: -leg ('luler'; pronounced 'loo-leer')
Meaning: cat is a very skilled swimmer; possibly a very good fisher as well. Reason: a cat’s legs propel them when swimming; derives from phrase 'a leg and a leg will keep you afloat', or 'a kick and a kick will keep your head above water', referencing how a cat swims. Other: may be a very solid, strong cat
Suffix: -stripe ('hel'; pronounced 'heel')
Meaning: cat does not fit any other suffixes, and is notably dark or distinctively striped. Reason: indicates distinct stripes. Other: cat is distinctly marked; cat is not ‘average’, rather cat simply is too unique to be classified by another suffix.
Suffix: -tail ('rad'; pronounced 'rahd')
Meaning: cat is very agile and good at leaping/balance/climbing. Reason: cats use their tails for balance in climbing and jumping. Other: cat is likely on the leaner, lighter side
Suffix: -throat ('sesin'; pronounced 'seesssihn'; derived from 'ses' (breath) and 'in' (center))
Meaning: cat is energetic and adaptable, possibly also competitive, very driven, has mood swings. Reason: derives from sayings 'in throat first' indicating a reckless cat, and 'up to their throat' indicating a cat that delves deeply into things out of ambition and competitiveness. The throat is also considered the center of the breath and thus a changeable and energy-filled place. Other: may be moody, hot-headed, rash, boisterous, mischievous, hyperactive
Suffix: -tongue ('muher'; pronounced 'moo-here'; derived from words 'mu' (soft) and 'her' (wet))
Meaning: cat is an above average healer/seer. Reason: healers use tongues to cleanse wounds and soothe patients; seers uses tongues to advise their leader, soothe others, and interpret signs for others. Derives from sayings 'the tongue is a balm', and 'speaks with tongues' indicating using the tongue to soothe both verbally and psychically, and interacting with spirits and counseling. Other: cat probably has excellent memory and is extremely dedicated to their craft; likely very gifted from early age.
Suffix: -voice ('ses-e'; pronounced 'seesss-eee'; derived from 'ses' (breath) and 'e' (self/spirit/life))
Meaning: cat is very good story-teller, orator, skilled at explaining things or persuading others. Reason: the voice is used to tell stories, conveying meaning through specific diction and intonation. Other: cat may be creative, confident, outspoken, outgoing, and highly admired; good diplomat and skilled at debating.
Suffix: -whisker ('mes'; pronounced 'meesss')
Meaning: cat is a very skilled hunter. Reason: cats use whiskers for sensing and perception, and therefore they are a vital part of hunting. Other: cat likely has good eye for detail and surroundings when it comes to prey and stalking prey

I haven't come up with a warrior cat suffix list, but I'm doing a warriors naming theme for my playthrough of Pokemon Moon version, and I'm working on suffixes with meaning. Unlike cats, who all have more or less the same parts, I have multiple suffix options for the same skill for varying body types. While -tail is a good speed-based suffix for Alolan Raichu (it surfs on its tail), it would not be fitting for a Pokemon that does not primarily use its tail for movement.
Here's what I have so far:
Speedy:
-tail
-foot
-flight
-fin
Tanky:
-shell
-stone
-wall
Physical Attacker:
-claw
-tooth
-wing
-blade
Special Attacker:
-shade
-shine
-blaze
-beam
Attackers in general:
-strike
Status Inflictors:
-mist
-dust
-song
Generic:
-fur
-pelt
-scales
-stripe
-spots
-feather

Eventually I will actually put up some info on my clans! Until then, piecemeal answers and some stuff.
So for my current biggest project I am using mostly traditional suffixes with a few additions:
-song: Granted to the apprentice which wins the Newleaf Song Festival. Apprentices in all four clans (Coveclan/Ridgeclan/Bloomclan/Ashclan) compete amongst each other in several categories including storytelling, debates, myth and lore, etc. They are judged by all past -song winners and one high ranking member of each clan (Bloomclan usually sends their med cat, Coveclan sends their eldest cat, Ridgeclan sends their head Queen, and Ashclan sends their Keeper of the Flame), a winner is chosen from among the contestants and granted the suffix.
-leap: Almost exclusive to Ridgeclan, occurs sometimes in Ashclan. Cats who specialize in climbing, but also particularly in climbing conditions. These cats can asses the integrity of a slope or mountain for possible landslides, are familiar with which types of stone or earth and slope consists of, and how the weather, wind, etc affect it. The can tell when a tree is stable or about to fall, and can expertly judge distances between pawholds or branches, while being skillful enough to know how to leap from great distances and avoid getting hurt. Achieving the Leap suffix can be dangerous due to the hazards they encounter and study willfully.
-scale: The fishing suffix. Scale cats are seen as being dedicated to learning all the fishing secrets, as well as having extensive knowledge on fish themselves, such as mating cycles, habitats, place on the food chain, and migration cycles. Very few Scale cats exist outside Coveclan, but where they do exist in the other clans, they are greeted with great respect at gatherings by Coveclanners.
-flame: Exclusively Ashclan, and in particular a specific cat or duo of cats. These are the cats who are the gardians of the eternal flame, their connection to Starclan, and the physical manifestation of their deity. These are the seer cats of the clan, dividing the roles of medicine cat with the healers. It is their job to ensure that the flame is always burning, while they are also called in to teach apprentices fire safety and do fire drills with the warriors. Since fire is a danger in their territory (particularly from campfires and specifically human laid forest fires), the -flame cat is in charge of knowing the signs of fire as well as keeping ceremonial ash always ready in the case of ceremonies, either of birth, or of advancing rank, or of death. Flame cats are usually mostly in camp, and never participate in gatherings, to the point where few outsiders know they even exist.
Now those are the extra suffixes for my main project, but I also had quite a lot of fun during a boring class today coming up with a new system which covers the same sorts of suffixes.
This is a bird/sky based system of naming:
-Sky/-Sun: Leader
-Song: Skilled Healer, bird song is soothing (still debating this one if anyone has suggestions)
-Light: Skilled seer, a medicine cat connected more strongly to Starclan, with more spiritual affinity than skill at healing.
-Gaze: Tracking. A bird tracks its prey with its gaze from above.
-Beak: Hunting. It is the beak which delivers the final blow in the killing of prey.
-Talon: Fighting. Birds talons are their greatest weapons.
-Dive: Hunting + Fighting. Birds dive when hunting and fighting, using their height to their advantage.
-Tail: Agility + Maneuverability. It is the tail of a bird which ultimately directs their flight and allow for movement.
-Wing: Speed. Birds use their wings to increase speed in flight.
-Feather: Beauty. A bird's pride is in their feathers which can have mesmerizing patterns.
-Down: Good with kits. (Still debating on this one) Refers to downy feathers and the warmth and security they offer.
-Cloud: Calm and clear-headed.
-Storm: Energetic, adaptable, free-spirited.
-Stone: A cat who is grounded in their strong sense of morality. Sometimes considered wet blankets sometimes for limiting other cats fun.
-Fur/Pelt/Stripe/Step: Traditional meaning.
I feel like there might some I'm missing. Ah well Ill work on it. Im also working on an earth/plant related one, and a water based one.

nobody's mentioned it in that way yet, but i think -feather may have a physical interpretation as well - an especially light cat or one that can move silently should earn it, maybe? other than that, i'm working on it, haha
